Farm Apprenticeship at Flatbed Farm in Glen Ellen


This is an opportunity for a hard-working and enthusiastic individual to learn many aspects of a small-scale diversified farming, with focus in growing specialty produce, and direct sales and marketing. At Flatbed Farm, we grow vegetables, herbs, flowers, some fruit, microgreens, olives, we raise chickens for eggs, and we make many value added products and sell them at our road-side store on Highway 12 on Thursdays from 1 – 5pm, and Sunday from 10am – 2pm.

Hours: 10 -15 Hours a week, flexibility in creating schedule, but must include 2-3 Sundays per month, from 8am to 2:30pm
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: Flexible, Apprenticeship runs for atleast 10 weeks, but there is opportunity to continue for longer as well, and to grow into a more substantial position
Compensation: $14/hour and farm produce

Responsibilities: The apprenticeship position will focus on harvesting and farm stand sales of specialty produce, herbs, and flowers, but there will be opportunity to participate in many aspects of the farm including general field work, harvesting, planting, washing and packing, and to learn sales and invoicing, and working at the farm stand. There will also be opportuntity to take on an independent project of your choosing. This is a new farm, and there are many possibilities and opportunities to be creative with creating value added- products and bringing new ideas to the farm. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about farm stand sales, as well as working on the farm. The farm apprecentice will mostly work alongside the Farm Manager, as well as sometimes with other on the Faltbed Farm crew, and occasionally alone.

Qualifications:
Interest and enthusiasm in sustainable agriculture
Some experience working on a farm, and some sales experience helpful too.
Show up on time, and be accountable for your work.
Physically able to work long hours, tolerate diverse conditions, lift 50 lbs.
Ability to work well with others and alone.
Good communication, with coworkers and with customers.
