Scotts Valley Family Farm Seeking Farm Hand for 10-15 Hours/Week

Fowl Play Farm is a 12 acre certified organic family farm in Scotts Valley, CA. We are passionate about creating a homestead that improves the soil and biodiversity on our property while experimenting with permaculture and maximizing our production potential. We have a 1.5 acre Merlot vineyard and approximately 2 acres planted to a wide variety of fruit trees, annual and perennial crops and native ornamentals. We maintain a flock of 30-40 laying hens and 3 goats. We produce mostly for ourselves and those we love and also sell at the Scotts Valley Farmers Market and to a handful of other local customers.

We are in our second year of production and are looking for a motivated part-time individual who is excited to join a small family farm still learning what is best for our land. The ideal candidate(s) will be a strong communicator with basic farm/garden knowledge, a general handiness with basic tools, be able to lift 50 pounds and be stoked doing often strenuous physical work.

The tasks and opportunities are endless all year long! Responsibilities may include (but are definitely not limited to):

- Farm & Vineyard Management: compost production, plant propagation, seed saving, planting, weeding, mulching, gopher trapping, pruning, harvesting, fence & irrigation mending, tool maintenance

- Animal Management: regular coop/pen cleaning, feeding, watering, egg washing/packing, culling, assisting with goat health maintenance (hoof trimming, etc.), shelter maintenance

- General Property/Landscape Management: weed-whacking, pruning, mulching, removal of invasive species

- Certifications: recordkeeping to maintain CCOF certification and compliance with farmers market and egg handling requirements
