Volunteer Opportunities at Arcadia Farm

We offer a number of ways for you to get involved at Arcadia Farm.  If you would like to volunteer in some way other than the opportunities listed below, please contact us at info@arcadiafood.org.

Farm work days for individuals

Arcadia hosts volunteers on the farm every Monday and one Saturday per month* from 9am-12pm.
We ask that volunteers register online for workdays, and we open registration during the last week of each month for the following month.
Farm work may include: weeding, planting seeds, transplanting, sifting compost, hauling manure and compost, digging, watering and more. We provide gloves, tools, and drinking water.
On regular farm work days, volunteers should:
  • Register online.
  • Come on time! We start promptly at 9am
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, including close-toed shoes.
  • Dress for the weather.
  • Bring a water bottle and/or snack.

Farm work days for groups

Looking for a unique service opportunity for your class, organization, or group of friends? Come out to the farm! Arcadia Farm loves hosting groups of up to 40 volunteers with advance notice. You’ll be amazed at how much we can accomplish together.
Farm work may include: weeding, planting seeds, transplanting, sifting compost, hauling manure and compost, digging, watering and more. We provide gloves, tools, and drinking water. Our site has two lovely outdoor picnic areas where your group can enjoy lunch after the workday.
Volunteer groups should:
  • Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, including close-toed shoes.
  • Dress for the weather.
  • Bring a water bottle and/or snack.
We request a small donation ($100-$500) from large volunteer groups to help us cover staff and materials costs.
We’re also happy to offer short lessons or team-building exercises depending on the needs of your group. Email info@arcadiafood.org to learn more or to schedule a volunteer group.

"Watching kids see a carrot pulled from the ground for the first time is something special. Their eyes light up and and you can almost witness the synapses in their brain fire. Before your very eyes, their schema for a carrot has changed. That's pretty awesome." - Volunteer Farm Educator

Volunteer Farm Educators

Volunteer Farm Educators help make field trips to Arcadia Farm safe, educational, and fun. They help monitor the space, provide instruction and supervision, and assist with general garden maintenance. We will host groups of up to 60 elementary school students from Washington, DC and northern Virginia schools on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

"I enjoyed learning and teaching about sustainable farming just as much as the children did. It was so nice to meet and work with the team of women on the farm and the children were delightful. Tasting the honey straight from the hive was a thrill as was picking up the chicken and her fresh eggs." - Volunteer Farm Educator

We ask volunteers to commit to one Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday each week from 9:30am to 2:30 for at least 8 weeks during the spring or fall seasons.

Thanks! See you on the farm!
